Baseball Recap: Columbus Comes Up Short

Columbus fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Crete on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 7-6.

Columbus got a good showing from Karsten Killham, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Killham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Columbus got a big performance out of Connor Cameron, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Jayce Nelson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Columbus now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Crete, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will host Fremont at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Crete, they will welcome Omaha South at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Packers have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
