Basketball Recap: Northwest Takes a Loss

Northwest easily dispatched Pine Prairie last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Northwest Raiders fell just short of the Ville Platte Bulldogs by a score of 49-47 on Friday. The Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 42-37.

Ville Platte found their leader in freshman Bri'Telah Freeman, who went 8 of 19 on her way to 18 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Freeman has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Raeosha Thomas, who posted eight points and 14 boards.

Northwest's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 19-6. As for Ville Platte, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-8.

Looking ahead, Northwest will square off against Church Point at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ville Platte, they will take on Mamou at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
