Softball Recap: Vandalia Vandals vs. Hillsboro Hilltoppers
Vandalia had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-11 to make it 11. They came up short against the Hillsboro Hilltoppers, falling 13-0. If the Vandals were looking for revenge after losing 5-0 to the Hilltoppers when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Hillsboro, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.
For Hillsboro's part, they got a massive performance out of Gracelynn Crayne, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Crayne has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Chappelear, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Coming up, Vandalia will venture away from home to square off against Altamont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hillsboro, they will square off against Nokomis at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
