Preview: Gatewood Gators vs. Briarwood Academy Buccaneers
The Gatewood Gators will be playing at home against the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Gatewood sitting on three straight wins and Briarwood Academy on four.
With a playoff game on the line, Gatewood rose to the challenge on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 54-12 win over the Cavaliers. The result was nothing new for Gatewood, who have now won five matches by 28 points or more so far this season.
Even though Briarwood Academy has not done well against Brentwood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Briarwood Academy took down Brentwood 21-6.
Briarwood Academy can attribute much of their success to Hollis Evans, who rushed for 185 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and Charlie Mosley, who rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Mosley has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played.
Gatewood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Briarwood Academy, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Gatewood beat Briarwood Academy 17-8 when the teams last played back in September. Will Gatewood repeat their success, or does Briarwood Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
