Softball Recap: Tyler Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wheeling Central Catholic, Tyler was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Roane County Raiders 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since March 20th.

Tyler let Holly Johnson and Stevie Torman run wild. Johnson went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles, while Torman went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Torman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Macey Shuman, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Tyler kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.

Tyler's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Roane County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Tyler will head out to challenge Wirt County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.13 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Roane County, they will welcome Tug Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight.
