Football Recap: Jett Lawson Leads Tri-West Hendricks' Defense on Friday

Tri-West Hendricks hadn't done well against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bruins took down the Braves 47-29. The Bruins pushed the score to 47-15 by the end of the third, a deficit the Braves cut but never quite recovered from.

Jack Sorgi had a dynamite game, throwing for 332 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per attempt, and also punching in one rushing score. Tri-West Hendricks' leading receiver Carter Cummings was Sorgi's top target yet again, picking up 137 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Another reason for the win was Tri-West Hendricks' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Jett Lawson was especially locked on to Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's QB and sacked him twice.

When it comes to explaining why Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory lost, don't look at Dylan Rogers. Despite the final result, he rushed for 74 yards and one score, and also threw for 100 yards on seven of 13 attempts. Rogers was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 54 yards. Keivon Mattox got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Tri-West Hendricks has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 41.0 points this season. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Tri-West Hendricks will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Triton Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Bruins their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, they will challenge Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
