Preview: Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays vs. Conemaugh Township Indians
Conemaugh Valley is 0-10 against Conemaugh Township since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays will be playing at home against the Conemaugh Township Indians at 7:15 p.m. Conemaugh Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 matches -- so hopefully Conemaugh Township likes a good challenge.
Conemaugh Valley posted their closest victory yet this season on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Portage 73-71. Given Conemaugh Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Portage is ranked 355th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jeremy Dietz and Landon Percinsky were among the main playmakers for Conemaugh Valley as the former scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Percinsky hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 12 straight games. Bryton Yackulich was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Conemaugh Township can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent game on Thursday. They blew past Northern Cambria 57-32. Winning may never get old, but Conemaugh Township sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Conemaugh Township's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brennan Lohr led the charge by scoring 17 points along with six assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lohr has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jon Updyke, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
Conemaugh Valley pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Conemaugh Township, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
Conemaugh Valley came up short against Conemaugh Township when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 70-65. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Updyke, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Now that Conemaugh Valley knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
