Baseball Recap: Nordhoff Triumphs

Nordhoff took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hueneme, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rangers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Vikings on Wednesday.

Weston Haley was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Nordhoff is 6-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-9 otherwise. Haley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Jaxson Middough was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Nordhoff's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when he doesn't).

Nordhoff is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Hueneme, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-12.

Nordhoff will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
