Baseball Game Preview: Salpointe Catholic Lancers vs. Rio Rico Hawks

The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will challenge the Rio Rico Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Salpointe Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.

Salpointe Catholic's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Mica Mountain as they made off with a 14-0 win. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.

Anthony Milo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colton Raetzman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Salpointe Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mica Mountain only posted an OBP of .250.

Meanwhile, Rio Rico fell victim to Sunnyside and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Blue Devils, falling 8-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Hawks have suffered since March 30, 2024.

Rio Rico's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 12-13. As for Salpointe Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3-1.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Salpointe Catholic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Rio Rico struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Salpointe Catholic took their win against Rio Rico in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 15-1 score. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
