Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Faith Vencill and Lucianna Paolillo Lead Edgewood to Victory

Chardon came into Thursday's contest looking for another win against Edgewood, but Summer Matthews wouldn't allow it. The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Hilltoppers 3-2 thanks in part to Matthews, who had seven aces and five digs. Matthews is also crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season.

Edgewood took Chardon into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-18, 16-25, 22-28, 15-12.

Edgewood was led to victory by Lucianna Paolillo and Faith Vencill. Paolillo had 20 digs, while Vencill hit 51% for 29 kills and 22 digs, five aces, and one block. That's the most digs Vencill has posted since back in October of 2024.

They weren't the only good server: Edgewood was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. They are a perfect 3-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Edgewood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Chardon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Edgewood will welcome Trinity at 2:00 p.m. on September 6. As for Chardon, they will look to defend their home court on September 6 against Nordonia at 12:30 p.m.
