Softball Recap: Downey Comes Up Short

Downey came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the La Mirada Matadores, falling 10-2. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Matadores recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Delilah Navarro made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Hernandez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 16-4. As for La Mirada, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Downey will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Riverside Prep at 3:30 p.m. on the 15th. As for La Mirada, they will face off against Warren at 3:15 p.m. on the 14th. The last three games the Bears have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
