Baseball Recap: Rio Grande City Takes a Loss

Rio Grande City was the 5-4 winner over Mission Veterans Memorial when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rio Grande City Rattlers fell 7-4 to the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots on Tuesday. Rattlers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Patriots since on Tuesday.

Rio Grande City saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hiram Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Lopez brought in this season. Another was Valentin Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Rio Grande City has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. Mission Veterans Memorial's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

While Rio Grande City had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
