Basketball Game Preview: Spearfish Spartans vs. Sturgis Brown Scoopers

The Spearfish Spartans will head out to challenge the Sturgis Brown Scoopers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Spearfish has five straight victories, Sturgis Brown has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Spearfish is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Mitchell, who was ranked 18th at the time (Spearfish was ranked 25th). Spearfish secured a 54-49 W over Mitchell on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sturgis Brown was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 35-31 to Huron.

Sturgis Brown's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Spearfish, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4.

Spearfish strolled past Sturgis Brown in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 50-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spearfish since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
