Softball Game Preview: Foothill Tech Dragons vs. Taft Toreadors

The Foothill Tech Dragons will face off against the Taft Toreadors at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Foothill Tech's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.

Foothill Tech took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Carpinteria an 18-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.

Jaelyn Perez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Tyler Trigo was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Jocelyn Morales was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Foothill Tech was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Taft got the win against Calabasas on Friday by a conclusive 9-1.

The win got Foothill Tech back to even at 2-2. As for Taft, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1.

Foothill Tech was able to grind out a solid win over Taft when the teams last played back in April of 2015, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Foothill Tech since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
