De Kalb waltzed into their contest on Monday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Hooks Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since March 1st.

Kaydee Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Brown wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caylin Corbett, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

De Kalb's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Hooks, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-7.

De Kalb does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hooks, they will head out on the road to square off against New Diana at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
