Basketball Game Preview: Spearfish Spartans vs. Mitchell Kernels

Spearfish is 0-6 against Mitchell since February of 2019 but things could change on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Spearfish Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Mitchell Kernels at 2:00 p.m.

On Friday, Spearfish came up short against Huron and fell 67-54.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mitchell). They took down Sturgis Brown 72-55 on Friday. The Kernels haven't had any issues with the Scoopers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Mitchell's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points over those games. As for Spearfish, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.

Things could have been worse for Spearfish, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-45 loss to Mitchell in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Spearfish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
