Black River hadn't done well against Firelands recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Pirates blew past the Falcons 3-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Black River never let Firelands on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-23, 25-17.

Kate Dieter was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had ten digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Black River was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 17 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Firelands lost, don't look at Stella Frederick. Despite the final result, she had 17 digs. Frederick is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Maddison Howard also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Black River's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Firelands, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-5.
