Softball Preview: Newsome Wolves vs. East Lake Eagles        
        
		
            The Newsome Wolves will face off against the East Lake Eagles at 7:00  p.m.  on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the  game red-hot, with Newsome sitting on  12 straight  victories and East Lake on three.
While Newsome's  win against Bloomingdale wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolves had just enough and edged out the Bulls  4-3 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by  just one  run.
 Allyson Conner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

 On the hitting side, Newsome saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Bella Gulle, who  went 1-for-3 with two  stolen bases and one  RBI. Those  two  stolen bases gave  Gulle a new career-high.
Meanwhile,  it was a Battle of the Birds when East Lake faced off against Dunedin on Wednesday. The Eagles skirted past the Falcons  3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  victory the Eagles have posted  since May 14, 2024.
 East Lake also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in:  Lucy Mondok gave up only one earned  (and one unearned) run on seven hits.
 Newsome's win was  their fourth straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 15-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.75 runs across that stretch. As for East Lake, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
 Newsome was able to grind out a solid  win over East Lake when the teams last played  back in March of 2023, winning  8-3. Will the Wolves repeat their success,  or do  the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
