Baseball Recap: Edinburg Wins Going Away Against Edinburg North

Edinburg not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 10th (when they won 12-2). They blew past the Edinburg North Cougars 11-1. That's more bragging rights for the Bobcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Chris Vargas was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has become a key player for Edinburg: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-12 otherwise. Vargas was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Castillo, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dylan McCarthy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

The win made it two in a row for Edinburg and bumps their season record up to 11-14. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Edinburg North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 16 of their last 17 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-25 record this season.

Edinburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against Edinburg North: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
