Preview: Woonsocket Villa Novans vs. Portsmouth Patriots

Woonsocket is 0-4 against Portsmouth since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Having just played yesterday, the Woonsocket Villa Novans will jump right back in to play the Portsmouth Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Woonsocket is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 92-41, which was the final score in Woonsocket's tilt against Classical on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Woonsocket can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Classical is ranked first).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Demetri Brin, who scored five points along with nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Kelly, who scored ten points.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth was fully in charge on Wednesday, breezing past Cumberland 64-37 at home.

Woonsocket has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Portsmouth, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Woonsocket suffered a grim 69-46 defeat to Portsmouth when the teams last played back in January. Can Woonsocket avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
