Basketball Recap: Niwot Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Alexis Austefjord and Jiselle Sales

After flying high against Brighton last Saturday, Niwot came back down to earth. The Niwot Cougars fell 59-48 to the Fairview Knights on Tuesday.

Jiselle Sales and Alexis Austefjord certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Sales went 5 of 9 en route to 11 points along with six boards and six steals, while Austefjord went 5 for 9 on her way to 11 points and eight rebounds. Sales has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alaina Loomis, who posted 13 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Niwot was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Fairview found their leader in sophomore Chloe Hickory, who went 7 for 12 on her way to 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hickory has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Savage, who scored four points and eight rebounds.

Niwot's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4. As for Fairview, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Niwot wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-27 win against Skyline on the 17th. Fairview has also already played their next game, a 44-25 defeat against Boulder on the 16th.
