Softball Recap: Ferris Wins Going Away Against Gonzaga Prep

Ferris barely beat Gonzaga Prep the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Saxons blew past the Bullpups 18-3 on Wednesday. The Saxons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 13 runs or more this season.

Frankie Schone made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ferris got a massive performance out of Tori Norling, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those runs marked the first that Norling scored this season. Donyelle Strauss was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3.

Ferris always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ferris' win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-5-1. As for Gonzaga Prep, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Ferris will square off against rival Shadle Park at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Gonzaga Prep is set to face off against their familiar foe Lewis & Clark at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
