Baseball Game Preview: Three Rivers Bulldogs vs. Kaufer Seahawks

The Three Rivers Bulldogs will square off against the Kaufer Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Three Rivers is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cotulla just ended the team's 13-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cowboys.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kaufer, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in April. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over La Villa back in April. The Seahawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

Sef Gutierrez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Kaufer is undefeated when Gutierrez posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kaufer got a massive performance out of Matthew Mascorro, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Mascorro is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Benny Rodriguez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Kaufer is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Three Rivers, their loss dropped their record down to 18-6.
