Basketball Game Preview: Mingo Central Miners vs. Phelps Hornets

The Mingo Central Miners will take on the Phelps Hornets at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Thursday, Mingo Central ended up a good deal behind Belfry and lost 81-65. While the Miners didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 26-20 in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Phelps came up short against Belfry on Tuesday and fell 78-69.

Mingo Central's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Phelps, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.

Mingo Central didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Phelps in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 68-62 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Phelps' Tyler Weddington, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 21 boards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Mingo Central still be able to contain Weddington? There's only one way to find out.
