Softball Preview: Voorheesville Blackbirds vs. Schalmont Sabres

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Voorheesville and Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Blackbirds walked away with a 5-2 win over the Ravens on Tuesday.
Abby Brown and Savannah Schmidt made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Brown pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Schmidt pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Brown has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brown went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double, while Schmidt got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs Schmidt has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren Sokolowski, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Schalmont didn't have quite enough to beat Ichabod Crane on Tuesday and fell 5-3.
