Volleyball Recap: Red Mountain Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Westwood

Red Mountain faced Westwood in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mountain Lions fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2. The Mountain Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Red Mountain wouldn't go down easily and took Westwood into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 15-8.

Brexton Tompkinson paced Red Mountain's offense, picking up 27 kills. Tompkinson got some help from Caleb Haskett and his 54 assists. Luka Erickson controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Red Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season. As for Westwood, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-8.

Red Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Mesa on the 29th. As for Westwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Skyline on the 29th.
