Basketball Recap: Thomas Academy Eagles vs. Scotland Christian Academy Saints
After flying high against Varsity Opponent last Thursday, the Thomas Academy Eagles came back down to earth. Thomas Academy was outmatched by the Saints on the road and fell 62-6. Thomas Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-2.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Scotland Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Layla Nicolosi, who scored 22 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Nicolosi has scored at least a third of Scotland Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Neff, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine steals.
Thomas Academy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.0 points per game. As for Scotland Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Scotland Christian Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Grunts at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
