Basketball Recap: Pasadena's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Pasadena had lost seven straight headed into Saturday's game, but Emily De La Garza didn't let it get to eight. The Pasadena Eagles came out on top against the Lutheran South Academy Pioneers by a score of 43-36 on Saturday thanks in part to De La Garza, who posted 29 points and seven steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Pasadena's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Lianna Garcia, who put up three points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks gave her a new career-high.

Lutheran South Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annaliese De La Pena, who had 18 points and four steals. With that strong performance, De La Pena is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Natalie Browning, who posted eight points and 12 boards.

Pasadena's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-14. As for Lutheran South Academy, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10.

Pasadena will head out on the road to square off against West Fork at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Pasadena has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Lutheran South Academy, they will host Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
