Softball Recap: Vaughn Comes Up Short

Vaughn had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it five. They lost 19-0 to the Northridge Academy Pumas. The game marked the first time this season in which the White Tigers were not able to get on the board.

As for Northridge Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 22.1 runs.

For Northridge Academy's part, Alondra Laguna and Val Montes were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Laguna tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Montes pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Laguna has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. At bat, Laguna got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Montes went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Northridge Academy got a massive performance out of Jackie Nettles, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Nettles has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Campa, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vaughn will head out to challenge Fulton at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The White Tigers are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Northridge Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
