Softball Recap: La Serna Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

La Serna entered their tilt with Whittier on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 9-1 victory. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Karina Torres looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lexi Avila and Elissa Guerrero did most of the damage at the plate: Avila went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Guerrero went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave Avila a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabela Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

La Serna lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

La Serna pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Whittier, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Looking ahead, La Serna will be taking part in a tournament against Beckman at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Whittier, they are taking a road trip to challenge Santa Fe at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
