Basketball Recap: Pettus Takes a Loss

Pettus lost against Kenedy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pettus Eagles took a 56-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kenedy Lions.

Despite the defeat, Pettus saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hayleigh Cruz posted 23 points and three steals. That was a full 46% of Pettus' points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Celine Cantu was another key player, putting up eight points and six steals.

Pettus has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Kenedy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11.

Pettus will face off against Yorktown at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Kenedy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Woodsboro at 6:15 p.m.
