Football Recap: Wakefield Comes Up Short

Wakefield extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-8. They were outmatched by the Broughton Capitals and fell 42-14. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.

Wakefield's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Grayson Brogdon, who picked up 152 receiving yards and one score, and Grayson Clopton, who threw for 153 yards and one TD.

As for Broughton, the win got them back to even at 4-4. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

It was another big night for Xavier Howard, who rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries, and also caught one TD. Broughton is undefeated when Howard posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Austin Youngs, who rushed for 64 yards and one score.

Wakefield wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 55-0 defeat against Millbrook on the 24th. As for Broughton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-6 victory against Athens Drive on the 24th.
