Basketball Game Preview: New Canaan Rams vs. Staples Wreckers

New Canaan hasn't had much luck against Staples recently, but that could start to change on Friday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Two weeks ago, New Canaan was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 32-27 to Joel Barlow.

Meanwhile, Staples might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Suffield an easy 66-44 win.

Despite the defeat, Staples saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chloe Smith went 6 for 14 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Riely Gullans, who posted six points and seven rebounds.

New Canaan's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 0-2. As for Staples, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

New Canaan didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Staples in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 55-50 victory. Does New Canaan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Staples turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
