Baseball Recap: Cumberland Takes a Loss

Cumberland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 5-2 to the Ashland Oredockers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Oredockers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 on April 10th.

Sloan McCreary put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

McCreary wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Schramski, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Ashland, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Coming up, Cumberland will head out on the road to square off against Spooner at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rails will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Beavers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ashland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Croix Falls at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Oredockers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
