Softball Game Preview: Southwest Legacy Titans vs. McCollum Cowboys

The Southwest Legacy Titans will head out on the road to challenge the McCollum Cowboys at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Southwest Legacy has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Last Friday, Southwest Legacy came up short against Warren and fell 15-10. The loss continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost three in a row.

Emory Ramirez and Dulce Tovar stepped up to the plate in a big way. Ramirez went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Tovar went 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs. That home run was Ramirez's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Garcia, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, McCollum entered their tilt with Winn on Friday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 4-0. Give the Cowboys' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

The result came thanks to RUIZ MADELYNN's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

McCollum's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest Legacy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Both Southwest Legacy and McCollum just can't seem to miss. Southwest Legacy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like McCollum struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Southwest Legacy suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to McCollum when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Southwest Legacy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
