The Madison Southern Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Wolfe County Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Somerset hit Madison Southern with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Briar Jumpers. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Madison Southern got a good showing from Jordan Dunaway, who didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Dunaway has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Coleston Cornett was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Wolfe County posted their closest win since March 27th on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out George Rogers Clark 5-3.
Max Whisman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Jayden Molands was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025.
Wolfe County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Wolfe County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Madison Southern, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-12 record this season.
Madison Southern beat Wolfe County 6-1 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
