Basketball Game Preview: Peotone Blue Devils vs. Reed-Custer Comets

The Peotone Blue Devils will challenge the Reed-Custer Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Peotone's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Reed-Custer has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Peotone is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 57 points on Monday, they were much more limited against Manteno on Thursday. They took a 33-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 394th, while the Panthers are ranked 133rd).

Meanwhile, Reed-Custer beat Herscher 48-41 on Thursday.

Peotone better keep an eye on Alyssa Wollenzien. She was instrumental in Reed-Custer's win, shooting 55% from the field to rack up 21 points along with seven boards and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Wollenzien has scored at least a third of the Comets' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Wilkey, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Reed-Custer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Peotone's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Reed-Custer, their victory bumped their record up to 10-11.

Peotone skirted past Reed-Custer 38-36 when the teams last played back in December of 2025. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
