Softball Recap: Peoria Notre Dame Drops Highest Score of Season Against Peoria

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Peoria Notre Dame). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Peoria Lions an 18-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Irish in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won nine in a row.

Elizabeth Leustek looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Peoria Notre Dame got a massive performance out of Lauren Leustek, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Leustek has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Ginglen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Peoria Notre Dame always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Peoria Notre Dame back to even at 9-9. As for Peoria, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peoria Notre Dame will take on Bloomington at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Peoria, they will square off against Stark County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
