Softball Recap: Orange Gets the Win

Orange proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the J.F. Webb Warriors. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.

Addison Guentensberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Guentensberger was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Katie Carden was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Hayleigh Hammond was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Orange always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Orange's record now sits at 9-10. As for J.F. Webb, they dropped their record down to 12-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Orange will welcome Falls Lake Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Firebirds have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for J.F. Webb, they will square off against Carrboro at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.78 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
