Softball Recap: Franklin Monroe Comes Up Short

Franklin Monroe had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-14 to make it 11. They came up short against the Houston Wildcats, falling 17-0. The Jets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in March of 2025.

As for Houston, their record is now 11-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

For Houston's part, Makenna Vondenhuevel was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Vondenhuevel has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Madison Plunkett was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Olivia Maier was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Franklin Monroe will challenge Arcanum at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Houston, they will face off against Oakwood at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lumberjacks & Jills have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
