Baseball Game Preview: Fort Payne Wildcats vs. Southside Panthers

For the second straight game, Fort Payne will face off against Southside. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Fort Payne Wildcats duke it out with Southside Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Fort Payne turned things around against Southside on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Panthers.

Griffin Winn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Fort Payne is 2-1 when Winn allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Malcolm Jackson was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Blake Griggs, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Fort Payne's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Southside, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 19-6.
