Softball Recap: Shelby Gets the Win

While Shelby's win against Onekama wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Portagers on Saturday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Portagers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jayna Burmeister was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Burmeister was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Burmeister wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Wolting, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Shelby's victory bumped their record up to 18-5. As for Onekama, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Shelby will head out to challenge Mason County Central at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Onekama, they will venture away from home to face off against Hart at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
