Basketball Recap: Maron Freestone's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Monticello over Bryce Valley

Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost to the Bryce Valley Mustangs on the road by a 53-35 margin. The Buckaroo were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Monticello's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maron Freestone, who posted ten points and three steals. Makenna Peterson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Bryce Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cashae Tebbs led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven steals and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Leech, who went 8 for 15 en route to 17 points.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Bryce Valley, they moved to 6-11 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Monticello has already played their next game, a 52-21 defeat against Valley on the 1st. As for Bryce Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-53 loss against Milford on the 5th.
