Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Owls vs. Mexico Bulldogs

The Marshall Owls will venture away from home to challenge the Mexico Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Marshall has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while Mexico will come in with five straight victories.

On Tuesday, Marshall didn't have quite enough to beat Fulton and fell 6-5.

Wyatt Griffit made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Kueker, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Mexico earned an 8-4 win over Macon on Monday. The eight-run effort marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Kaden Benne and Drew DeMint were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Benne pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, DeMint pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Benne posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Benne went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double, while DeMint scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Brady Fox was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Austin Maxwell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Mexico's record is now 5-0. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
