The Kiowa Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Burlington Cougars at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kiowa is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
On Thursday, Kiowa made easy work of The Colorado Springs School and carried off a 3-0 win.
The final score came out to 25-12, 25-16, 25-13.
Kiowa found their leader in freshman Kaylee Wyer, who had 11 digs and one assist. Hayden Giles also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Kiowa was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 12 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Burlington took on Cheyenne Wells on Thursday. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Tigers 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Burlington who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-8.
Kiowa's record is now 7-1. As for Burlington, their record now sits at 6-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Kiowa has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 12.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Burlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Kiowa couldn't quite get it done against Burlington when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
