Baseball Recap: Dawson-Bryant Comes Up Short

Dawson-Bryant extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-15 in the process. They came up short against the Portsmouth Trojans, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, with their most recent loss being a 13-2 defeat back in April.

As for Portsmouth, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.

For Portsmouth's part, Trevin Brooks was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brooks has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Leelind Scurlock looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Roth, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Camron Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Dawson-Bryant does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Portsmouth, they will square off against Ironton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 3.8, the Fighting Tigers 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
