Softball Recap: Munford Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Munford came tearing into Thursday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Handley Tigers as they made off with a 16-3 win. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 11-2 win last Thursday.

Madison Arnold was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 24 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Munford let Chloe Pickette and Brooklyn Pressley run wild. Pickette went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Pressley went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Pickette has posted since back in March. Ashtyn Bishop was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Munford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Handley only posted an OBP of .273.

Munford's record is now 28-6. As for Handley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Munford and Handley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. The Lions (ranked 97th) will meet Alexandria (ranked 28th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Handley will square off against Beauregard at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (224 vs. 77).
