Baseball Recap: Fort Plain Takes a Loss

Fort Plain had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-10 to make it 12. They came up short against the Schoharie Storm, falling 8-1. The Hilltoppers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Storm from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Schoharie, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6. The result was nothing new for the Storm, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Schoharie's part, Justin Vangasbeck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks.

On the hitting side, Schoharie got a massive performance out of Devon Schrader, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was Schrader's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Dingee, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Coming up, Fort Plain will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Mayfield at 4:30 p.m. The Hilltoppers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Schoharie, they will head out on the road to face off against Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
