Basketball Recap: Williamsville Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Williamsville can now relate to. They lost 44-23 to the Athens Warriors on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Bullets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Warriors are ranked 227th).

Athens' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lydia Hart, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ava Bee, who went 5-for-6 en route to 12 points.

Williamsville has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season. As for Athens, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-12.

Williamsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Athens, they will face off against Pleasant Plains at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
