Soccer Game Preview: Lakewood vs. Waverly

The Lakewood Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the Waverly Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lakewood has given up an average of 4 goals per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Lakewood's offense. They lost 6-0 to Lansing Catholic on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that Lakewood have lost by exactly six goals.

Meanwhile, Waverly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Ionia.

Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9-1. As for Lakewood, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Lakewood took their victory against Waverly when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 4-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
